DISABLED ATHLETE SPORTS ASSOCIATION TO HOST MIDWEST SLED HOCKEY LEAGUE ALL STAR GAME

(St. Peters, MO) -- On January 7, 2012 The Midwest Sled Hockey League (MWSHL) will be featuring two special games at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, MO.

The Second Annual MWSHL All Star Game will be played at 1:00 pm. This game will feature thirteen current and former USA National Sled Hockey Team members. Members from the first ever USA Gold Medal team from Salt Lake City, Bronze Medal Winner’s from Torino, Italy and Gold Medal Winners from Vancouver will be appearing.

The East All Stars will feature players from RIC Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Northern and the DASA St Louis Blues Sled Hockey Team. The West All Stars will feature players from the Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes and San Antonio Rampage.

The MWSHL Military Salute Game will feature the San Antonio Rampage (Wounded Warriors) versus the Colorado Avalanche. The Rampage are based out of Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The medical center offers sled hockey as a rehabilitation program for injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. A special pre-game military salute lead by Military Dignitary’s is scheduled.

The Military Salute Game will be played at 5:00 pm

Admission to both games is Free.

The second annual USA Hockey Sled Classic presented by the NHL took place the weekend of November 18 – 20, 2011, with over 100 of the top sled hockey players in the country competing on nine sled hockey teams affiliated with NHL clubs. The event was part of Come Play Hockey Month, a joint effort of USA Hockey and the National Hockey League.

Our own St Louis Blues Sled Hockey Team had a great weekend of competition, finishing in 3rd place overall.

The team will also be sending two players to the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary. Steven Cash is the starting goalie for Team USA and is

regarded as the number one sled goalie in the world. Steven finished the Sled Classic as the top rated goalie. Josh Pauls, a defenseman is also on the team and was the youngest

member of the Vancouver Gold Medal Team. Josh finished the Sled Classic 3rd in scoring with 5-4 for 9 points.

The 2011-12 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will take part in its first International Paralympic Committee-sanctioned tournament of the season beginning Sunday (Nov. 27) at the 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary, Alta.

Team USA will face Canada, Norway and Japan in the four-team tournament from Nov. 27 through Dec. 3. All of the games from the 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge will be streamed live on FASTHockey.com.


Steve Cash made seven saves on Monday to help Team USA to the win.
