Frequently Asked Questions
Do I or my child qualify for DASA?
DASA provides sports for individuals who have a permanent physical impairment who are cognitively able to follow rules of a game without assistance and who have difficulty participating in sports with their non-disabled peers because of their physical limitations.
How do I register myself/my child for DASA sports?
All new athletes must complete a “New Athlete Form” and speak with a staff member prior to registering for sports. After you’ve spoken with a staff member, you may visit our Registration page to see all available programs.
What is the age limit?
DASA works with athletes ages 2 years and up. Please inquire about our newest toddler programs!
What is the cost of your programs?
Most recreation programs cost $50/session. Competitive team fees are based on the cost of facility and travel requirements. The Ability Gym cost is $50/hour & $40/hour for military personnel or veterans.
Does insurance cover the cost?
Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the cost of any of our programs.
Are scholarships available?
There are some scholarships available, depending on the program. Please complete the scholarship application to be considered.
Do I need to have my own sports equipment?
DASA is fortunate to have numerous pieces of sports equipment for athletes in our programs to use. Once an athlete excels in a sport, we encourage athletes to purchase their own equipment.
Where do your programs take place?
Our programs are hosted at locations throughout the Greater St. Louis Area, in addition to our satellite programs in Columbia, MO. Locations vary by session and are listed on all registration information.
How long is each session?
Recreation programs are typically offered in 5-6 week sessions five times annually - twice in the Spring and Fall, and once during Summer. Competitive team seasons vary with the sport. Our program staff can provide specific dates and times for each sport.
What does Classification mean?
Classification provides a structure for competition by identifying eligible athletes for different sports through their abilities. This helps to create an equal playing field in each of the respective sports. Each sport has its own method of classification and what disabilities are eligible. Please contact us for more information about specific activities.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
DASA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible. However, if you purchase tickets to one of our events or bid on auction items at one of our events, these transactions are NOT tax-deductible. See our Form 990 and annual report on our forms page.
